The Moraga area in Contra Costa County occupies an inland valley in the East Bay hills, west of the Diablo Range and east of Oakland. Moraga is a small town in the Moraga Valley, where the terrain is sheltered by surrounding East Bay ridges and has a warmer, drier climate than the bay-facing communities. Saint Mary's College campus occupies part of the valley, and the surrounding residential areas have a quiet suburban character in the hill terrain. The Moraga Valley is accessible from the main East Bay communities via State Route 24 and local roads through the Oakland Hills. Moraga Country Club is in this area, within the residential and open-space environment of the valley. The surrounding hills are part of the East Bay Regional Park system.
