Raton Golf & Country Club sits at the foot of Raton Pass in Colfax County, one of the most significant mountain crossings on the historic Santa Fe Trail. Raton itself was a coal and railroad hub; the pass connects New Mexico to Colorado and carries Interstate 25 today along much of the same route used by wagon trains in the nineteenth century. Elevation in the Raton area runs near 6,600 feet, producing mountain golf conditions with forested terrain and cooler summers than the rest of the state.
