The formula
Course Handicap = Handicap Index × (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Rating − Par)
This is the current World Handicap System formula. The Slope part scales your index to how hard the tees play; the (Course Rating − Par) part — added since 2020 — accounts for tees where the scratch expectation differs from par, so the same index gives a consistent target whichever tees you choose. The result is rounded to the nearest whole number of strokes.
How to read the result
Your Course Handicap is the number of strokes you get for this course and tee — subtract it from your gross score for a rough net score, or use it to know which holes you receive a shot on. Every figure you need (Slope, Course Rating, par) is printed on the scorecard or the course's tee information. Don't have a Handicap Index yet? Estimate one with the handicap calculator.
