Golf in Citronelle

Citronelle is a Mobile County community north of Mobile in the rolling pine-forested landscape of south Alabama's coastal plain, a town whose history includes the discovery of oil in 1901—one of the earliest petroleum discoveries in Alabama—that briefly created a boom before the wells declined. The community's agricultural and petroleum heritage has given way to a quieter character as a rural residential community in the northern Mobile County corridor, where the absence of significant growth pressure has preserved the small-town character of a community content with its position as a modest community in the shadow of a much larger city.
