Shoal Creek is a Shelby County community in the wooded terrain south of Birmingham that is home to Shoal Creek Golf Club, one of Alabama's most celebrated private clubs and the site of the 1990 PGA Championship that brought national attention to the club's membership policies. The course's Jack Nicklaus design and its position in the forested ravine landscape of the upper Cahaba River watershed create a golf experience that is considered one of the finest examples of championship design in the southeastern United States.
