Golf in Arden

1 golf course in Arden, Delaware.

Arden is one of the most unusual communities in the United States, a single-tax colony founded in 1900 in northern New Castle County inspired by the economic theories of Henry George. In Arden, land is held in common trust and residents pay a ground rent based on land value rather than owning their parcels outright—a system that has attracted artists, craftspeople, and progressives for more than a century and given the community a distinct cultural identity. The Arden Guild Hall, the Forest Theater, and the annual Shakespeare Festival reflect the arts tradition that the single-tax community has sustained. Brandywine Country Club serves the golf community in and around this remarkable social experiment in the Brandywine Creek watershed of northern Delaware.
