Golf in Georgetown

Georgetown is the county seat of Sussex County, Delaware's southernmost and largest county, where the governmental functions—courts, offices, health services, and the county school district headquarters—give the town a civic character distinct from the beach resort towns to the east and the agricultural communities to the west. The historic courthouse square and surrounding residential blocks preserve the nineteenth-century character of a Delaware county seat, and the concentration of governmental employment gives Georgetown an economic stability less dependent on seasonal tourism than the beach communities that dominate Sussex County's public image. Mulligans Pointe provides golf for the county center population, and the Ryves Holt House—the oldest surviving structure in Delaware, dating to 1665—gives the town a depth of colonial history.
