Golf in Carlyle

Carlyle is the seat of Clinton County in southwestern Illinois, most widely known as the home of Carlyle Lake — the largest man-made body of water in Illinois, stretching nearly 26,000 acres. The lake was created by the Army Corps of Engineers in the 1960s along the Kaskaskia River and now functions as a regional outdoor recreation hub for boating, fishing, and camping. The surrounding farmland is characteristic of the gently graded interior Illinois plain, with the St. Louis metro visible to the west as the area's gravitational economic center. Governors Run Golf Course brings organized recreational golf to Clinton County from its Governors Drive address near the lake corridor.
