Golf in Garden City

Garden City, the Finney County seat in southwest Kansas, earned its optimistic name from early settlers who found artesian wells beneath the plains — the water that feeds the Arkansas River valley's irrigated agriculture and makes this corner of Kansas far more agriculturally productive than the landscape initially suggests. The city's economy is dominated by beef processing — Finney County is one of the nation's highest cattle-producing counties — and a diverse workforce drawn by the processing plants has made Garden City a genuinely multicultural community. Buffalo Dunes Golf Course, the municipal facility along the Arkansas River, serves a city of 26,000 in the heart of the western Kansas plains.
