Golf in Parsons

Parsons, the Labette County seat in southeast Kansas, was built by the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad — 'the Katy' — as a division point in 1871, and the railroad defined the city's character for decades. The industrial heritage of the area includes the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, active through much of the twentieth century. Today Parsons is a city of roughly 10,000 serving as the commercial hub for Labette County's agricultural and light-industrial economy. Two golf facilities — Katy Golf Course, named for the historic railroad, and Parsons Country Club — serve the community on terrain shaped by the creek corridors of southeast Kansas's more wooded and topographically varied landscape.
