Boys Town in Douglas County — legally an independent village within the Omaha metropolitan area — carries one of the most significant social legacies of any community its size in America. Founded by Father Edward Flanagan in 1917 as a home for troubled youth of every background, Boys Town became internationally known through the 1938 Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney film. The village maintains five golf facilities within its boundaries, making it one of the highest concentrations of courses per capita in Nebraska. Champions Run, Eagle Run, Miracle Hill, and Pacific Springs together serve both the Boys Town community and the surrounding western Omaha residential base.
