Golf in Bala Cynwyd

Bala Cynwyd is one of the innermost Main Line communities, a SEPTA rail stop on the Manayunk/Norristown Line just minutes from Philadelphia's city limits in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County. The name is Welsh — the township is full of them, a legacy of Quaker settlement patterns in the seventeenth century. Bala Cynwyd is compact and dense by suburban standards, its streets lined with stone houses that reflect the local building tradition and the prosperity of a community that has always attracted professionals working in the city. City Avenue forms its eastern boundary, placing it on Philadelphia's immediate doorstep. Despite the urban adjacency, golf is accessible: Lower Merion and the nearby townships contain some of the Philadelphia region's most established clubs, operating since the era when the Main Line set the social calendar for the city's elite.
