Golf in Buena Vista

Buena Vista is a small community in Allegheny County's Elizabeth Township, in the Monongahela River valley south of McKeesport. The Mon Valley's southern tier — the stretch from McKeesport through Elizabeth and toward the Westmoreland County line — was once one of the most industrially active river corridors in America, with steel and coke operations lining the water's edge. Elizabeth Township has retained a more rural character than the valley floor communities, with the hillside terrain above the river providing the open ground that golf requires. Buena Vista's name — 'good view' in Spanish — may reference the elevated perspectives available from the ridges above the Monongahela. The area draws from both the Mon Valley's residential communities and from the growing population in the southeastern Allegheny County townships that have seen residential development as Pittsburgh's suburbs spread.
