Golf in Cambridge Springs

Cambridge Springs is a Crawford County borough whose identity was built on mineral springs — in the 1890s, the community developed into a spa and health resort destination as the spring waters were marketed for curative properties. The resort hotels that served that trade are mostly gone, but Cambridge Springs retains a Victorian architectural character and the sense of a community that aimed for something grander than its rural surroundings might suggest. French Creek flows through the borough, connecting it to the broader French Creek watershed that defines much of Crawford County's recreational character. The borough is also noted in chess history — the 1904 Cambridge Springs International Tournament left its name on an enduring opening variation. Golf in the area serves a small permanent population and whatever seasonal recreational traffic the region still attracts from the Crawford County lake communities and the Erie metropolitan market forty miles north.
