Golf in Fayetteville

Fayetteville in Adams County sits at the foot of South Mountain near Caledonia State Park, where the wooded ridge of the Blue Ridge's Pennsylvania extension meets the Adams-Franklin county agricultural plain. The park takes its name from the Caledonia Iron Furnace that Thaddeus Stevens owned — the radical Republican congressman's ironworks was burned by Confederate cavalry during the Gettysburg campaign in retaliation for Stevens's political positions. This corner of Adams County is transitional terrain: the valley farmland of the Cumberland Valley begins here, with the South Mountain ridgeline providing the immediate wooded backdrop. Fayetteville also appears as a Franklin County address — the name crosses the county line — and Conocodell Golf Course on the Franklin County side occupies the same general landscape. The Michaux State Forest covers the mountain above both communities.
