Golf in Harmony

Harmony is a Butler County borough with one of Pennsylvania's more unusual historical identities — it was the first settlement of the Harmony Society, a communal religious group founded by Johann Georg Rapp that established a utopian community here in 1804 before moving to Indiana and then to Economy (now Ambridge) in Beaver County. The Historic District of Old Economy Village, the Harmonists' final home, is preserved twenty miles south. Harmony itself retains the stone and brick architecture of the original settlement, giving the borough a visible historical character unusual for a small Butler County community. Connoquenessing Creek flows through the area, shaping the landscape in ways the original settlers would recognize. Golf in the Harmony area draws from the broader Butler County market and the growing Cranberry Township residential population to the south, where suburban Pittsburgh development has pushed steadily northward.
