Golf in Lebanon

Lebanon occupies the floor of the Lebanon Valley, a broad agricultural corridor running east-west between South Mountain to the south and Blue Mountain — the long first ridge of the Ridge and Valley province — to the north. The valley's limestone soils and sheltered position made it some of Pennsylvania's most productive farmland, and the city of Lebanon grew as a processing and manufacturing center for that agricultural wealth. Iron was the other engine: Cornwall Iron Furnace, just south of town, operated from 1742 until 1883 and stands today as one of the best-preserved charcoal iron plantations in the country. The twin ridges that frame the valley appear as backdrop from virtually every course in the area, a dramatic horizon that gives Lebanon Valley golf its visual signature. The valley's east-west orientation channels prevailing winds, a factor that plays differently depending on which ridge you're playing toward.
