Anderson is the county seat of Anderson County, in the northwestern South Carolina Upstate near Lake Hartwell and the Georgia border. Known as the Electric City for its early adoption of hydroelectric power in the 1890s, Anderson is a mid-sized industrial and educational city in the Upstate piedmont. Anderson County is bordered by Lake Hartwell on the south and west, formed by the Savannah River dams, and by the piedmont foothills to the north.
