Mobridge is a Walworth County Missouri River community on Lake Oahe, the immense reservoir that transformed the Missouri River landscape in the 1950s and 1960s. The reservoir's creation flooded substantial Sioux tribal lands, an act that remains a source of grief and grievance for the Standing Rock and Cheyenne River Sioux tribes. Mobridge's name derives from Missouri Bridge, a reference to the railroad bridge built here in 1906, and the town serves surrounding ranching communities and as a gateway to the Sioux tribal areas adjacent to the reservoir. The Mobridge area's excellent walleye fishing draws anglers from hundreds of miles, and the community's hospitality infrastructure has developed to serve this seasonal visitor market.
