Edgerton is a small city straddling the Rock and Dane county line in south-central Wisconsin, set in the tobacco-farming country along the Rock River near Lake Koshkonong. Historically a center of the Wisconsin tobacco trade, the city grew around agriculture and the railroad, and it celebrates its heritage with an annual Tobacco Heritage Days festival. Lake Koshkonong, a large, shallow lake nearby, draws anglers and boaters. Edgerton lies in the gently varied landscape between Madison and the Janesville-Beloit corridor, in country defined by dairy and tobacco farms. Golfers in the area find recreational courses set among the farmland and near the lake. With Madison to the northwest and Janesville to the south, Edgerton offers a base for golf in south-central Wisconsin, in the agricultural country along the Rock River, where the lake and the tobacco heritage shape the region's character.
