Prairie du Chien is a small city in Crawford County, set on the Mississippi River at the mouth of the Wisconsin River in the Driftless country of southwestern Wisconsin. One of the oldest European settlements in the state, the city carries a deep fur-trade and military history, reflected in the Villa Louis estate and Fort Crawford museum. Prairie du Chien sits in the dramatic bluff country where the great rivers meet, with the unglaciated ridges rising sharply above the floodplain and the wildlife refuge spreading along the water. Golfers in the area find recreational courses set among the bluffs and river country. With the Mississippi forming the Iowa border to the west and the Driftless ridges spreading east, Prairie du Chien offers a base for golf in Crawford County, in one of the most historic and scenic stretches of the Mississippi River in Wisconsin, where the rivers and the bluffs define the landscape.
