Tomah is a city in Monroe County, set at the crossroads of major highways in the Driftless-edged country of west-central Wisconsin. Calling itself the Gateway to Cranberry Country, the city sits near the vast cranberry marshes of the region and the celebrated Elroy-Sparta and La Crosse River state trails, in country where the unglaciated hills meet the central sands. Tomah grew around the railroad and remains a transportation hub, near Fort McCoy and the wooded valleys of the Driftless. The area blends its crossroads identity with the surrounding marshes and farms. Golfers in the area find recreational courses set among the wooded terrain and marsh country. With Sparta to the west and the Wisconsin Dells within reach to the southeast, Tomah offers a base for golf in Monroe County, in the cranberry-and-trail country of west-central Wisconsin, where the marshes, the Driftless hills, and the rail trails define the landscape.
