Oakland Hills Country Club is one of the most celebrated golf institutions in the United States, home to two Donald Ross championship courses—the South Course and the North Course—that have hosted more major professional championships than almost any other club in the country. The South Course, which Ben Hogan famously described as 'The Monster' after his 1951 US Open victory here, has hosted six US Opens, three PGA Championships, and the 2004 Ryder Cup; the North Course has hosted its own share of championship events. Founded in 1916 in Bloomfield Hills and developed by Ross into one of the game's most demanding tests, Oakland Hills represents the pinnacle of the Michigan golf tradition. The clubhouse was destroyed by fire in 2022 and was being rebuilt as of the club's planned centennial.
