Oldest golf courses on record in Michigan

The oldest golf course on record in Michigan is Charlevoix Municipal Golf Course, which first opened for play in 1896, a year verified against the operator's own site, a historical society and press coverage. The strongest competing claim on record is Country Club of Detroit, but no source dates its opening before 1898, later than 1896, so it does not lead this list. The 50 oldest golf courses in Michigan by recorded founding year, from Charlevoix Municipal Golf Course in Charlevoix in 1896 to 1921. They are drawn from the 600 Michigan courses with a recorded founding year, 75% of the 802 listed here; the median founding year across that group is 1969. The rest carry no recorded year, so an older course may not appear on this list.
