Gainesville is the county seat of Hall County in northeast Georgia, the largest city in the northeast Georgia region and the de facto capital of the lake country. Hall County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Georgia, driven partly by its position on Lake Lanier — the major water supply reservoir for the Atlanta metro — and partly by its location along the I-985 and US-129 corridors north of Gwinnett County. Gainesville is also the home of a significant poultry processing industry that has made Hall County one of the most ethnically diverse communities in rural Georgia. Two golf courses serve the Gainesville area.
