Golf in Maunaloa

Maunaloa is a community on the western end of Molokai, in the dry, windswept terrain that characterizes the island's leeward side. The Kalua Koi Golf Course was developed as part of a resort project on western Molokai's coastline that met with limited success on an island that has consistently valued community character over tourism development. The course operates in the context of a partially realized resort from an earlier era of Hawaii resort development, serving visitors and the small local population of western Molokai in an environment defined by the island's agricultural history and the dramatic lava coastline of the leeward shore.
