Golf in Anna

Anna is the seat of Union County in the far southern tip of Illinois, wedged between the Shawnee National Forest to the east and the Mississippi River floodplain to the west. The town sits in a geographic anomaly: the Anna–Jonesboro area is home to bald cypress swamps, a species more associated with Louisiana bayous than the Midwest, tucked into a low-lying area known as Cache River Wetlands. The broader Union County landscape shifts from forested limestone bluffs to bottomland within a few miles. Southern hospitality and Appalachian cultural currents run stronger here than in the flat agricultural communities to the north.
