Golf in Onarga

Onarga is an Iroquois County community in the flat agricultural plain south of Kankakee, positioned in a part of Illinois where the lake-plain topography produces some of the most level terrain in the state. Shagbark Golf & Country Club provides recreational golf in a landscape where tree cover is a significant design element — the shagbark hickory that lends the club its name represents one of Illinois' native woodland species, and any wooded character on the course stands in deliberate contrast to the open farmland surrounding it. Onarga serves as a local service center for the agricultural townships of south-central Iroquois County.
