Golf in Greenfield

Greenfield is the seat of Hancock County, sitting roughly 20 miles east of Indianapolis along the old National Road — now US-40 — in the agricultural flatlands of central Indiana. The town is perhaps best known as the birthplace of James Whitcomb Riley, the nineteenth-century poet celebrated as the Hoosier Poet, whose childhood home is preserved as a museum near the courthouse square. Hancock County has retained a small-city identity distinct from the Indianapolis suburbs pressing in from the west, with a downtown that still anchors civic and commercial life. Greenfield Country Club is the primary golf facility serving the county, offering recreational golf to a community whose economy has historically balanced agriculture with light manufacturing and, increasingly, the logistics and distribution industry drawn to the I-70 corridor.
