Golf in Belle Chasse

Plaquemines Parish extends south of New Orleans along the Mississippi River in one of the most distinctive geographic formations in North America — a narrow ribbon of inhabitable land flanked by river on one side and increasingly fragile marsh on the other. Belle Chasse, at the parish's northern end, is connected to New Orleans by tunnel under the river and sits above the flood line in relative terms. Bayou Barriere Golf Course occupies this landscape, its name tracing the network of bayous that historically separated communities. The military presence here — Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base — shapes the community significantly. South of the course, the land subsides gradually toward the river mouth and the open Gulf.
