Golf in Plaquemine

Iberville Parish sits directly south of Baton Rouge along the Mississippi's west bank, its landscape shaped by the river and the petrochemical complex that makes this stretch of the Mississippi one of the most industrially active waterways in the world. Plaquemine, the parish seat, is known for the Plaquemine Lock State Historic Site — an early-twentieth-century engineering marvel that connected the Mississippi to Bayou Plaquemine, enabling barge traffic into the interior. The Island Golf Course takes its name from the river-island geography of this Mississippi floodplain, where the boundary between land and water has always been provisional.
