Golf in Westlake

Calcasieu Parish's west side includes Westlake, an industrial community across the Calcasieu River from Lake Charles whose economy is built around the petrochemical facilities that line the ship channel. The National Golf Club in Westlake occupies a name that implies scale and ambition, serving the Lake Charles metro's western residential communities with an option separate from the casino-resort courses on the east side of the river. The Calcasieu River separates the two communities geographically while the industrial economy links them, and the golf market here is supplied primarily by the refinery and chemical-plant workforce and management that has sustained the parish's economy since the mid-twentieth century.
