Golf in Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor occupies the eastern shore of Mount Desert Island and serves as the principal gateway to Acadia National Park, one of the ten most-visited national parks in the United States. The town's transition from a Gilded Age retreat — when Astors, Vanderbilts, and Rockefellers built summer cottages on the island's rocky shores — to a national-park gateway community took most of the 20th century. Today Bar Harbor manages the tension between its historic summer-colony character and its role as a tourism hub. Kebo Valley Golf Club, founded in 1888 and among the oldest courses in the country, anchors the town's golf offering in the shadow of Acadia's granite peaks.
