Golf in Castine

Castine is one of the most historically significant small towns in America — a Hancock County peninsula that has been held by the English, French, Dutch, and Americans at various points since the early 17th century, making it the most frequently contested site in North American colonial history. The Maine Maritime Academy is headquartered here, training future merchant mariners aboard vessels that dock in the protected harbor. The village of Federal-period architecture sits above a tidal harbor on Penobscot Bay. Two golf facilities serve the community — Castine Golf Club and Island Country Club — providing golf on a peninsula where the water is rarely more than a few hundred yards away.
