Golf in Bucksport

Bucksport is a Hancock County mill town on the Penobscot River, where Fort Knox — a massive granite fortification completed in the mid-19th century to defend the river narrows — remains one of Maine's most distinctive historic landmarks. The Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory, one of only three such bridge observatories in the world, rises above the fort on the opposite bank. The town's economy once centered on the Verso Paper mill, which closed in 2014 and left Bucksport navigating a transition. Bucksport Golf Club's nine holes serve a community working through reinvention on the forested western bank of the Penobscot.
