Golf in Cassopolis

Cassopolis is the county seat of Cass County in southwestern Michigan near the Indiana border, a small city that has historically served as the commercial hub for a county with a distinctive demographic profile—one of Michigan's more significant African American rural populations, with a history tied to the Underground Railroad and the communities of Black farmers who settled in Cass County in the mid-nineteenth century when its location near the Indiana border and its Quaker-allied communities made it a terminus for freedom seekers. Cass County's history as an Underground Railroad destination and a destination for Black settlement gives Cassopolis a historical depth that distinguishes it from comparable southern Michigan county seats.
