Fremont is the county seat of Newaygo County in western Michigan, a small city on Fremont Lake known as the birthplace of Gerber baby food—the Gerber Products Company (now a Nestlé brand) was founded here in 1928 when Daniel Frank Gerber developed the commercial production of strained baby food.
