Rochester Hills is an Oakland County city incorporated in 1984 from Avon Township, a rapidly developed suburban community in the eastern Oakland County corridor whose Meadowbrook Estate—the Dodge estate, now the site of Oakland University's Meadow Brook Hall—and the Paint Creek corridor provide cultural and natural anchors for a large suburban city.
