Gastonia is the largest city and county seat of Gaston County, a major industrial and suburban city in the Charlotte metropolitan area. The Loray Mill strike of 1929 was a landmark event in American labor history. Today Gastonia is part of the Charlotte metro's western suburban zone, along the I-85 corridor between Charlotte and Gaffney, South Carolina.
