Golf in New Bern

New Bern is the county seat of Craven County, one of the oldest European-settled cities in North Carolina, at the confluence of the Neuse and Trent rivers. Founded in 1710 by Swiss and German settlers under the direction of Christoph von Graffenried, New Bern served as the colonial capital of North Carolina and retains one of the most well-preserved colonial and antebellum downtowns in the state. Tryon Palace, the colonial governor's residence, anchors the historic district. The city's position at the Neuse-Trent confluence, accessible to the Atlantic via the Neuse River estuary, gave it strategic importance as a trading and governmental center. New Bern is also the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola.
