Pinehurst is the village at the heart of the NC Sandhills golf corridor and one of the most famous golf destinations in the world. The resort community was established in 1895 in the longleaf pine terrain of Moore County, and has grown to encompass a collection of numbered courses at Pinehurst Resort, along with private clubs and the broader Pinehurst village community. Pinehurst No. 2, designed by Donald Ross, is one of the most celebrated courses in the United States and has hosted the U.S. Open multiple times. The village's Carolina Hotel and the surrounding golf landscape were designated a National Historic Landmark in 2005, reflecting the resort's unique role in American golf history. Pinehurst, together with Southern Pines and Aberdeen, forms the Moore County Sandhills golf corridor.
