Golf in Timberon

Timberon is a private mountain community in Otero County at roughly 8,500 feet in the Sacramento Mountains, accessible only by a winding mountain road from Cloudcroft to the north or Alamogordo to the south. The community was developed as a residential retreat for residents seeking mountain escape from the Tularosa Basin and West Texas heat below — summer temperatures here run 20 to 30 degrees cooler than the desert floor. Ponderosa and mixed-conifer forest surrounds the community. Timberon Golf Course serves residents at extreme elevation, where the season is compressed to late spring through early fall but the mountain tranquility is unmatched in southern New Mexico. Public access to Timberon is limited by the private development structure, and the community functions largely as a self-contained mountain enclave for its property owners.
