Golf in Defiance

Defiance is the county seat of Defiance County in the Maumee River valley of northwestern Ohio, a community whose name derives from Fort Defiance—the strategic position established by General Anthony Wayne at the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee rivers before his decisive victory at Fallen Timbers in 1794. The Maumee and Auglaize rivers' confluence gives the city a notable geographic character, and the surrounding agricultural plain of the former Black Swamp country provides the landscape context for a county seat that serves as the commercial and governmental hub for a large, productive agricultural county.
