Allison Park is a census-designated community in Allegheny County's Hampton and Indiana townships, part of the North Hills corridor that extends Pittsburgh's suburbs north along the ridgelines above the Allegheny River valley. The area developed in the mid-twentieth century as highway access made the wooded plateau practical for residential development, and it retains a greener, more spacious character than older Pittsburgh suburbs closer to the rivers. Fairview Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike define the area's main axes, but the terrain between them is deeply wooded, with hardwood ridgelines dropping into creek hollows. Golfers based here are well-positioned for a dense cluster of courses across Hampton, Indiana, and McCandless townships. The mix of mature residential neighborhoods and remaining woodland gives Allison Park a suburban-pastoral character that becomes more pronounced as you move from the main corridors into the side roads.
