Golf in Fairless Hills

Fairless Hills is a planned Bucks County community built in the early 1950s to house workers at U.S. Steel's Fairless Works, a massive integrated steel plant on the Delaware River that was intended to bring the steel industry to the eastern seaboard. The mill operated for decades and then closed in the 1990s, leaving Fairless Hills as a standalone residential community — one of the last large-scale company towns built in America. The grid of Cape Cods and ranch homes on modest lots retains the functional character of planned industrial housing, and Oxford Valley Road and Route 1 provide the commercial infrastructure. Lower Bucks County's position in the Philadelphia metro's industrial corridor — between the Trenton manufacturing zone to the north and the Northeast Philadelphia neighborhoods to the south — gives Fairless Hills a working-class character that distinguishes it from the county's more affluent interior.
