Golf in Greensburg

Greensburg is the Westmoreland County seat and the commercial hub of a county that has a stronger golf identity than perhaps any other in Pennsylvania, owing largely to Arnold Palmer. Palmer was born in Latrobe, twelve miles east, and learned the game at Latrobe Country Club where his father was greenkeeper — a background that shaped both his competitive instincts and his unfailing identification with the working-class golfing tradition. The city sits in the foothills east of Pittsburgh where the Pittsburgh plateau begins transitioning to the Laurel Highlands, and the surrounding townships support an active county golf market. Westmoreland County's mix of Pittsburgh commuter population, established mid-sized city culture, and access to Highlands resort country gives Greensburg's market breadth beyond what a county seat of its size might otherwise command.
