Golf in Port Royal

Port Royal is a town in Beaufort County, adjacent to the city of Beaufort on Port Royal Island, in the heart of the Sea Island Lowcountry. Port Royal Sound — one of the deepest natural harbors on the East Coast — was the site of a major Union naval victory in November 1861 that gave the Union control of the SC Sea Islands for the rest of the Civil War. The town of Port Royal today is home to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (nearby) and a working port, with a character distinct from the historic antebellum tone of neighboring Beaufort.
