Golf in Elizabethton

Elizabethton is the seat of Carter County, a small city on the Watauga River in the high country of northeastern Tennessee near the North Carolina border and the ridgelines of Roan Mountain State Park. The Overmountain Men who assembled near here in 1780 before the Battle of Kings Mountain helped turn the tide of the Revolutionary War in the South — a history commemorated along the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail. The Watauga River through Elizabethton has been dammed to form Watauga Lake upstream, and the surrounding terrain of high ridges and deep valleys characterizes the Blue Ridge in one of its most rugged expressions.
