Old Hickory is a Davidson County community on the south shore of Old Hickory Lake, the Cumberland River reservoir created by the TVA Old Hickory Dam. The community takes its name from Andrew Jackson's nickname, and the connection to the 7th President is reinforced by the proximity of the Hermitage — Jackson's plantation home — a few miles to the southeast. Old Hickory Lake's shoreline defines much of the community's character, with residential neighborhoods backing to coves and inlets along the northern Davidson County lakefront. The DuPont plant at Old Hickory was a major industrial employer for much of the 20th century, and the community retains a working-class industrial history alongside the more recreational lake-country identity that has grown in recent decades. Golf in Old Hickory benefits from the lakeside setting and the broader Nashville metro golf market.
