Golf in Decatur

Decatur is the county seat of Wise County northwest of Fort Worth in the Cross Timbers, a small city that serves as the commercial hub for a county known for cattle ranching and more recently for natural gas production from the Barnett Shale. The area has a well-preserved courthouse square with Victorian buildings. Wise County is in the Cross Timbers country, with cedar, post oak, and mesquite on gently varied terrain. The Barnett Shale natural gas play that transformed much of north Texas's energy economy has been significant in Wise County, bringing economic activity alongside the agricultural base. Lake Bridgeport in the western part of the county provides recreation. One course serves this north Metroplex fringe community in the Cross Timbers terrain of Wise County.
